Pashtun Zarghun (PZ) District in central Herat Province, Afghanistan, has around 240 villages with a population of 197,573. The district relies heavily on agriculture but lacks adequate irrigation infrastructure. The method Cash-for-Work (CfW) provides temporary employment to vulnerable households while enhancing local infrastructure, such as irrigation canals, roads, and flood protection walls. This project improves agricultural productivity, food security, and community stability by creating local jobs to capacity-build activities on water conservation, resource management, and environmental risk reduction, empowering participants to maintain infrastructure and adopt sustainable practices. The project will focus on social cohesion to increase community participation in social activities and increase the ownership sense in community development. These efforts aim to build a resilient, self-reliant community, improving living conditions and fostering long-term development in PZ.
