Objective: Civil society organizations, emerging and marginalized civil society groups are empowered to become active citizens and are actively influencing and pursuing their rights. The programme centres on quality Context-Based Education and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights education to developing active citizenship among marginalised groups in Ghana, Sierra Leone, Peru and Bolivia. AXIS is guided by a vision where competent citizens claim their rights and make governments accountable for delivering on the rights being the basis for democratic and equal societies. To Axis active citizenship is a combination of knowledge, skills and actions that contribute to building a democratic society based on the acceptance of universal human rights and the rule of law and values diversity. CSOs have an important role in promoting active citizenship through which citizens can advocate for their rights and actively perform their active citizenship.
