Initiatives for Peace and Human Rights (iPeace) is a non-profit organization committed to promoting a culture of peace through human rights and good governance education. Since the early 2000s, iPeace has worked at the grassroots level in collaboration with local leaders, communities, and other stakeholders to promote socio-economic development and transformation grounded in respect for human rights, inclusive participation, accountability, and good governance. Over the years, iPeace has focused on strengthening the capacity of citizens and community leaders to understand and uphold human rights and good governance principles. Through its community-based interventions, the organization contributes to sustainable peace, social cohesion, and inclusive development in Rwanda and the wider Great Lakes Region. The organization recognizes that sustained peace and development require citizens, community leaders, and other stakeholders to understand their rights and responsibilities and to participate meaningfully in decisions affecting their communities. iPeace therefore seeks to foster a culture in which community members and leaders work together to promote peace, respect human rights, uphold good governance principles, and hold one another accountable. Mission: Africa’s Great Lakes Region becomes a place where community members and community leaders work together towards peace by holding each other accountable in respecting Human Rights values and Good Governance principles. Vision: To equip communities and individuals in Africa’s Great Lakes Region with the human rights knowledge and good governance skills needed to build a global culture of peace. iPeace is not a membership-based organisation.
