Tarea Asociación de Publicaciones Educativas (Tarea) is a civil society organization founded in 1974 in Lima, Peru, to promote quality education for all people with the slogan “For the right to a liberating education.” Tarea’s main objective is for students from indigenous populations and vulnerable groups to access relevant, quality public education that fosters their capacity for agency and active citizenship. Tarea achieves this through the empowerment of socio-educational actors from rural and urban communities, particularly Andean and Amazonian communities, and ensuring that they participate in the production of educational, pedagogical and political proposals, which contribute to an intercultural educational transformation with gender equality, which will allow girls, boys, adolescents and young people to escape poverty. Its first programmatic priority is Citizenship, promoting student participation and leadership, promoting student democracy, interculturality, gender equality, and advocating for the incorporation of citizenship in the official curricula and public policy. Its second institutional priority is Intercultural Bilingual Education (IBE), promoting the implementation of IBE-friendly policies in schools and Andean and Amazonian communities.
